Scott Montgomery
A life-long resident of Kittitas County, Scott was raised on a horse
ranch in the Teanaway area. Scott has been riding horses since the
age of 4 years and has been traveling the wilderness area on horseback
since that time. Scott learned to pack under the watchful eye of
his father.
Since he was a small boy he has always been around
horses and mules. As he got older he learned more about horses and
mules and his interest in them helped him to choose a career in
horseshoeing. After graduation from high school he enrolled in the
Professional Horseshoeing School at Montana State University. He
spent four months learning how to shoe horses and mules in an intensive
and innovative setting. After horseshoeing school he started out
on his own in the Kittitas Valley, establishing a large client base.
Striving to continuously improve in his chosen profession
Scott spent two summers with Lyle Bergeleen, one of the most cutting
edge horseshoers in the nation. After completing two summers of
horseshoeing with Bergeleen he applied his new knowledge to helping
horses and mules with special needs. During these years Scott actively
recreated in the National Forests with his own horses and mules.
Years of personal recreation allowed Scott to hone
the packing skills initially taught by his dad. By trial and error,
Scott perfected his skills at packing effectively and safely and
learned how to take care of his stock consistent with approved methods
of packing. His experience with horses also led to a short stint
in a major motion picture starring Kevin Costner in which he rode
for over six months.
As his skills have grown over the years Scott’s
interest in packing has continued to increase, becoming a desire
to establish a career working with horses and mules and experiencing
outdoor adventure. Scott has tailored his skills to the expertise
level required of a professional packer and as owner of Three
Peaks Outfitters has the perfect opportunity to live his dream.
Scott is excited
to have the opportunity to work in a career to which he has devoted
much of his life.

Michele Montgomery
Michele was introduced to the outfitting and guide business as a
child, watching her mother promote a white water rafting/horse back
riding/hot air balloon guide service. During these years she learned
much about the world of outfitting and guide services. She quickly
developed a love for horses, the outdoors, and adventure.
In Michele’s high school years
she acquired a part time job driving horse drawn wagons and carriages.
She took this skill to Portland when she moved and found a niche
working with horses driving carriages throughout downtown Portland.
Michele’s interest in the outdoors drove her decision to earn
her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies at Evergreen State
College in Washington State.
Following college Michele worked outdoors
at a number of different jobs. Michele’s combined interest
in horses and the outdoors led her back to the outfitting and guide
business. She spent one fall working at guest ranch in Pinedale,
Wyoming performing day rides, packing, and horse care among other
duties. Moving back to Washington she joined up with High Country
Outfitters. For five years Michele was responsible for pack trips,
day rides, camp cooking, client safety and horse care.
Michele’s packing experience and
ability allows her to compete in the annual packing contest at
the
Washington Outfitters and Guides annual Rendezvous. The last time
she competed she took fourth place against many of the top packers
in the Northwest. Owning Three Peaks Outfitters is
a dream come true for Michele, bringing her
love for horses and the outdoors together in a career she can put
her heart into.

Ronald Montgomery
Since the age of 8 years, Ron has been involved with horses. Raised
on a 2,000 acre cattle ranch in the Winthrop area, Ron was one
of
seven sons who helped with all phases of ranch work – gathering
and working cattle on horseback, breaking young horses and using
the teams and wagons to go to town for supplies.
During his high school years Ron was
employed by the Sunny M Dude Ranch in Winthrop. His duties included
taking clientele on day rides and hooking up the teams and wagons
and taking clients for hay rides. Ron was also responsible for horse
and stable care. While living in Winthrop Ron also worked for the
U.S. Forest Service. It was during this time he assisted the head
wrangler in the shoeing and care of the 40 U.S. Government horses
based in Winthrop.
Ron is an all-around horseman, rancher
and avid outdoorsman. He is very knowledgeable in all aspects of
the horse and ranch world. He is also knowledgeable about the wilderness
areas and timberlands in the State of Washington, including the
Alpine Lakes Wilderness, the Pasayten Wilderness and Glacier Peak
Wilderness.
The history of his involvement with horses
is extensive. In addition to growing up on the back of a horse,
Ron purchased a horse ranch in 1969. Ron raised thoroughbreds for
18 years. During these 18 years he operated a breeding program,
foaling and raising as many as 18 babies a year. Ron also broke
young colts and professionally trained horses owned by others. The
training regiment included the daily galloping and race preparation
of these horses. During this time he also worked at the Circle M
Ranch in Monroe, Washington. The Circle M was a thoroughbred training
facility where Ron broke and trained the 2-year old crops, galloped
and trained older horses, handled the breeding program and maintained
the stable area.
Ron was also the owner of several horses
to race in his colors and was the breeder of many horses that were
successful in their racing careers, winning both grade and stakes
races. In addition, Ron was the packer for the Wild Cat Mining Company
– packing in supplies on horses and mules to the mining company
operations located in the Stafford Creek area of the Teanaway valley.
In 1989 the operation of the ranch changed
from thoroughbreds to quarterhorses. The family ranch on Masterson
Road boasts ownership of high quality quarterhorse geldings, mules,
and stallions. Horse boarding services are also provided for many
clients. Ron has a history of buying and selling high quality horses.
He is consulted by those wishing to find the perfect horse and often
accompanies clients to horse sales in the pursuit of the perfect
animal.
